West Ham avenged their weekend defeat to Manchester United by winning the Carabao Cup 1-0. Alex King made his debut and did very well, winning a bunch of balls in midfield.

Alex King had the first chance of the game in the seventh minute, but his shot was knocked down by Eric Bailly. Three minutes later the Hammers took a deserved lead, a Ryan Fredericks cross was finished by Manuel Lanzini with a shot to the far post.

In the 12th minute, the home side responded, but Juan Mata’s shot only ended up on the crossbar. Manchester’s excellent start to the game was capped off by a 15th-minute effort from Anthony Martial, who finished horribly.

Then the game settled down and it wasn’t until the 27th minute that Jesse Lingard got a hand to the ball, but Alphonse Areola dealt with his attempt. The more active Manchester did not take any of their other chances in the first half and went into the box with West Ham leading 1-0.

Diogo Dalot opened the second half with a shot that just missed the back post by inches. In the 62nd minute, Areola saved the Hammers again when he blocked Mason Greenwood’s shot with his feet.

Andriy Yarmolenko could have added the insurance in the 86th minute, but he only hit the left post in an excellent chance. A minute later, Mark Noble was alone in front of Dean Henderson, but the finish didn’t go his way.

West Ham held on to win 1-0 at Old Trafford. One of the biggest favourites in the competition is out of the Carabao Cup.
