The highest paid players in France? PSG players in the top 14 places, Messi doesn’t lead
There’s a lot of money in professional football, and the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t changed that. It has put a bit of a damper on transfer money, players transfer for free a lot, but it puts a lot more pressure on salaries afterwards. That’s exactly what PSG did.
There’s a lot of money in professional football, and the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t changed that. It has put a bit of a damper on transfer money, players transfer for free a lot, but it puts a lot more pressure on salaries afterwards. That’s exactly what PSG did.
As usual, the prestigious French newspaper L’Équipe has published the salaries of the players in Ligue 1 and this year it’s quite a load.
All the first 14 places of the highest paid players were taken by PSG players. In the top 20, the Parisian players are in 18 positions. The Qatari owners simply have an unlimited budget, which they are not afraid to use.
The most money in Ligue 1 goes to Neymar, who earns 4 million euros a month. The other, Lionel Messi, gets 3.3 million euros every month. The third best PSG player at the moment is Kylian Mbappé, who receives 2.2 million euros.
Next are the stalwarts Marquinhos and Verratti (1.2 million euros), with the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi receiving just over a million euros and Keylor Navas earning a million euros. Ángel Di María, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gianluigi Donnarumma are in the range between 900,000 euros and a million euros.
In eleventh place is Mauricio Icardi with 800 thousand euros, only below him we find Sergio Ramos, who receives 796 thousand euros. Leandro Paredes (750,000 euros) and Julian Bernat (730,000 euros) round out the top fourteen.
In fifteenth place we find someone from another group. Wissam Ben Yeder from Monaco receives 650,000 euros, followed again by two players from PSG, Ander Herrera and Maestro Kimpempe receive 640,000 euros. In eighteenth place is again the other Monaco player, Cesc Fabregas has 600,000 euros in his contract. Julian Draxler 562,000 euros and Layvin Kurzawa with 500,000 euros still fit into the top twenty.
PSG is thus betting on overpaying stars, but it is not bringing success. In the domestic league, the Parisian giant reigns supreme, but that’s not what he wants, he wants to conquer the Champions League. And even with such a loaded squad, it has already failed in the eighth round.
