Despite the original plan, Formula 1 will run “only” twenty-two races this season, with the nineteenth event of 2022 being the Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix. So what is the schedule and where can you follow the entire race weekend?

The US Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas has been on the Formula 1 calendar since 2012, with the circuit shape designed by Hermann Tilke in collaboration with architecture firm HKS. And that year was the first Grand Prix on US soil since the Indianapolis race in 2007.

The first race in Austin was attended by 100,000 fans who witnessed Lewis Hamilton’s last victory in McLaren colours. The seven-time world champion switched to Mercedes the following year.

The fastest lap on this circuit is held by Charles Leclerc, who set a time of 1:36.169 in his Ferrari in 2019. The most recent winner is Max Verstappen in a Red Bull, joined on the podium last season by Hamilton and Sergio Pérez.

The most victories on this circuit have been won by a Briton, Hamilton (5), in 2012 and 2014 to 2017. Apart from him, Sebastian Vettel came here for the first place in 2013, it should be noted, still in the colours of Red Bull. In the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the US Grand Prix was dominated by Kimi Räikkönen and Valtteri Bottas.

Circuit of The Americas

The track itself is 5.513 km long and consists of twenty corners. Circuit of The Americas, as the official name of the circuit goes, offers two DRS zones. The first is located in the start/finish area, the second on the straight between turns 11 and 12.

So there are two detection points on the track. The Formula One Grand Prix of the United States is a standard 56-lap race, during which the drivers will cover over 308 kilometres.

But in addition to the detection points, you can also see the average speeds that the drivers reach in each corner, as well as which gear they usually shift into in that corner.

US Grand Prix – programme

The Formula 1 cars will take to the track for the first time on Friday 21 October, specifically in the evening (21:00), and this will of course be the first practice session (officially called Free Practice 1 – ed.). This will last for one hour as standard.

Fans of NHL hockey are certainly used to such times, but for the F1 fan, the times of the rest of the race weekend will be a treat. FP2 will start at midnight and last for an hour and a half. The third and final free practice session is scheduled for Saturday, October 22, from 9-10pm.

Saturday’s, or Sunday’s, qualifying will, like FP2, start at midnight in its classic format – Q1, Q2 and Q3.

The race is of course scheduled for Sunday, October 23. All five lights will go out at 21:00 sharp. If the race lasts the standard two hours or so and we don’t see red flags due to a major collision, for example, the winner will see the checkered flag around 23::00.

US Grand Prix – stream

Live coverage of the Formula 1 races can be watched on Sport 1 and Sport 2. There will also be internet streams and, last but not least, F1 TV, where you can switch the onboard cameras of the individual drivers.

But F1 TV in particular also offers other features, namely livetiming and detailed telemetry. In addition to the full F1 programme, you can also watch press conferences or Formula 2 or Formula 3 practice and qualifying sessions.

US Grand Prix – odds

The drivers’ championship has already been decided. Verstappen managed to defend his championship from last season. On American soil, however, it is possible that the second title – the Constructors’ Cup – will be decided.

There are still four races left in the season, including the US Grand Prix, but Red Bull has 619 points and an almost unassailable 165-point lead. Verstappen can also break several more records.

Anyone who bets on one of the Verstappen-Perez pairing to win the US Grand Prix will probably not be far off the mark. The Dutch driver already won last year at the Circuit of The Americas and is having the season of his life this year. And last but not least, Red Bull is in incredible form.
