The fifth round of this year’s Formula 1 season is already knocking on the door. The Miami Grand Prix, the fifth race of the twenty-three scheduled this year, is scheduled for the weekend of May 5-7. So what’s the schedule and where can you follow the entire race weekend?

The Miami Grand Prix is one of only three events on this year’s World Championship calendar to be held on US soil. Last year, Max Verstappen won here in a Red Bull, with his stablemate Sergio Pérez finishing fourth. The podium in Miami went to Charles Leclerc in second and Carlos Sainz in third.

The latter is, of course, the US Grand Prix at the Austin circuit. But that won’t take place until October. Oh, and the big news in 2023 is also to be the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which will be held on November 19 and, unusually, on a Saturday.

In any case, Miami becomes the eleventh American venue. In its rich history, the queen of motorsport has visited Indianapolis, Sebring, Riverside, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix in addition to Las Vegas and Texas (Austin).

Miami International Autodrome

The track itself is currently 5.412km in length and consists of nineteen corners. Miami International Autodrome, as the official name of the circuit is, offers three DRS zones with three detection points.

The first one can be found at the exit of Turn 8, the second one is located on the straight between Turns 16 and 17 and the third detection point is at the exit of the last turn, which will direct the drivers to the finishing straight.

In addition to the detection points, you can also see the average speeds that the pilots reach in each corner and the gear they usually shift into in that corner.

The Miami Grand Prix programme

The Formula 1 cars will take to the track for the first time on Friday, May 5, at 20:00, as part of the first practice session (officially called Free Practice 1 – ed.). This will last the standard one hour.

FP2 will start on the same day at 23:30. The third and final free practice is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, from 18:30 to 19:30.

At the stroke of 10pm, drivers and teams will have to qualify for Sunday’s Grand Prix, which F1 has scheduled to start at 21:30.

Live coverage of the F1 race can be watched on Sport 1 and Sport 2, where you can switch between Czech or Slovak audio tracks. But there is also F1 TV, where you can switch between the onboard cameras of each driver.

But F1 TV also offers other features, such as livetiming and detailed telemetry. In addition to the full F1 programme, you can also watch press conferences or practice sessions and F2 or F3 qualifying.

Miami Grand Prix – odds and predictions

The start of the season is clearly in Red Bull’s hands so far, with its drivers scoring double in both of the first races. Verstappen won in Bahrain ahead of his teammate Pérez, with the order reversed in Saudi Arabia.

At the Melbourne circuit for the Australian Grand Prix, Red Bull finished first again, this time with Verstappen winning. Mexican Pérez started from the back of the grid after problems in qualifying and eventually finished fifth.

In Baku, Red Bull was again the main favourite to win, but Ferrari managed to get back into the game, especially in both qualifying sessions. Although they were unable to match the Austrian team’s race pace. Pérez took the victory in the VC of Azerbaijan, with Verstappen finishing second. So Red Bull recorded another double and will certainly be the favourite to win in Miami.
