Formula 1 has a record 23 races on the schedule this season, with the fifth event of 2022 being the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix. So what’s the schedule and where can you follow the entire race weekend?
The Miami Grand Prix is the second event on the World Championship calendar to be held on US soil. The second is, of course, the directly invited US Grand Prix at the Austin circuit. But that won’t take place until October.
It should be noted that next year, these two races will be joined by the Las Vegas race, which we wrote a more detailed article about earlier.
In any case, Miami becomes the eleventh American venue. In its rich history, the queen of motorsport has visited Indianapolis, Sebring, Riverside, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix, in addition to Las Vegas and Texas (Austin).
Miami International Autodrome
In this case, this is a complete novelty. Miami will host a Formula 1 race for the very first time. It is scheduled to be contested over fifty-seven laps, during which the drivers will cover over 308 kilometres.
The track itself is currently 5,412 kilometres long and consists of nineteen corners. Miami International Autodrome, as the official name of the circuit is, offers three DRS zones with three detection points.
The first one can be found at the exit of Turn 9, the second one is located on the straight between Turns 16 and 17 and the third detection point is at the exit of the last turn, which will direct the drivers to the finishing straight.
In addition to the detection points, you can also see the average speeds that the pilots reach in each corner and what gear they usually shift into in that corner.
The Miami Grand Prix programme
The Formula 1 cars will take to the track for the first time on Friday, 6 May, at 20:30, as part of the first practice session (officially called Free Practice 1 – ed.). This will last the standard one hour.
FP2 will start on the same day at 23:30. The third and final free practice is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, again from 7 to 8 pm.
At the stroke of 10pm, drivers and teams will qualify for Sunday’s Grand Prix, which F1 has scheduled to start at 21:30.
Miami Grand Prix – stream
Live coverage of the Formula 1 races can be watched on Sport 1 and Sport 2. There will also be internet streams and, last but not least, F1 TV, where you can switch the onboard cameras of individual drivers.
But F1 TV in particular also offers other features, namely livetiming and detailed telemetry. In addition to the full F1 programme, you can also watch press conferences or practice and qualifying sessions in Formula 2 or Formula 3.
Miami Grand Prix – odds
Red Bull dominated the previous race at Imola, while Ferrari had a truly disastrous race weekend. The Mercedes team is still in big trouble, while McLaren, despite its improvement, is not yet thinking about victory.
It is therefore very likely that one of the Ferrari-Red Bull pairing will once again take the win. So who are you betting on?
