The Vegas Golden Knights are currently on their way to winning the coveted Stanley Cup in this year’s NHL playoffs! They won a close 3:2 victory in Florida and now lead the series 3:1.
The fans at the FLA Live Arena didn’t have to wait long for the first goal, although it didn’t bring much joy to the fans of the home team. Chandler Stephenson opened the scoring after one minute and thirty-nine seconds.
The Golden Knights led 1:0 from the start in this crucial game of the finals series, and then increased their lead even further.
However, the fans in Florida did not see any more goals during the first period. The visitors were happy for the second time in the second period and again it was Stephenson, who increased the difference to two goals at 27:28, assisted by Mark Stone and Nicolas Hague.
And about three and a half minutes later it was 3: 0. This time, Swedish forward William Karlsson was on the receiving end of the scoring action. Florida, however, was not going to go down without a fight in this evenly matched game.
Brandon Montour scored with less than four minutes to go in the middle period to make it 1: 3 for Florida.
And at the beginning of the third period, specifically at 43::50, the Panthers scored a contact goal. Once again, it was the Montour – Aleksander Barkov pairing. But this time it was the 27-year-old Finnish forward who scored.
The home team had practically the whole third period to equalize, but it didn’t happen. Florida understandably couldn’t take the loss at the very end and the referees handed out penalties.
Montour received a ten-minute personal penalty, plus two minutes for assault, Matthew Tkachuk received 2+2 minutes for slashing and unsportsmanlike conduct, plus another ten minutes. Vegas goalie Adin Hill also received a ten-minute penalty for the same infraction.
Alex Pietrangelo received two minutes for holding with 18 seconds left. Florida did not take advantage of the short advantage and lost 2: 3. They lost the series to Vegas 1: 3.
The Golden Knights will have a chance to end the series and win the famous Stanley Cup for the first time on Wednesday night.
