Two well-known Czech footballers who played at the Africa Cup of Nations are heading home. Specifically, they are Slavic player Peter Olayinka, whose Nigeria crashed out to Tunisia (0-1), and also Guelore Kangu. The former Spartan even has a significant signature in the elimination of Gabon, failing to convert a penalty in the penalty shootout against Burkina Faso.
Czech fans, especially the Slavic ones, do not have to despair, the ex-Slavic stopper duo of Michaeil Ngadeu (Cameroon) and Simon Deli (Ivory Coast) are still in contention for the trophy. Cameroon successfully advanced to the quarterfinals by knocking out Comoros. Deli’s Elephants will try to get past a strong Egypt in the eighth round.
Anyway, we will now focus on the duel of Guélor Kanga, who also ends up at the AFCON thanks to his missed penalty. He was saved by one of the best goalkeepers of the championship, Hervé Koffi.
Who is Koffi? Try to remember that name, he has the second highest number of saves in the Belgian top flight this season (85) and his save percentage is 74.6%. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is based at RSC Charleroi, but he is certainly eyeing a higher profile.
Koffi’s qualities were unluckily met by Kanga, who certainly did not disappoint at the championship. He was one of Gabon’s best players in the group stage and even appeared in the top 11 of the regular Group C. But now he is heading back to Serbia.
The Crvena Zvezda Belgrade offensive all-rounder had the most touches of the ball of any player on the pitch against Burkina Faso (89), producing three shots and two key passes. Had it not been for the missed penalty, the prestigious WhoScored server would certainly have rewarded him with a higher rating, which is how Kanga earned his 6.54.
The football public, however, was most interested in the progressive celebration of the aforementioned Burkina Faso goalkeeper. Take a look for yourself! Where are the goal celebrations of the strikers, right?
