Dortmund is the first Champions League finalist. The German club also won the return leg in France, and after a 2-0 aggregate win, they advance. PSG hit the post eight times in the double-header and Borussia were lucky.
In the first four minutes, both goalkeepers went into action, first Niclas Füllkrug headed in, Goncalo Ramos shot on the other side. In the 12th minute, Karim Adeyemi tried a half-volley but only hit the defending player.
The good pace continued with a shot from the edge of the box by Ramos, but he missed the left post by a considerable margin. Then, from a sharp angle, visiting defender Julian Ryerson tried his luck, but sent the ball into the right side netting.
Ironically, Dortmund had more chances, with Adeyemi running into the opposition’s penalty area in the 39th minute, but Gianluigi Donnarumma was the one to shine. Three minutes later, the second goalkeeper went into action, but Vitinha only hit the middle of the goal.
In stoppage time, Dortmund almost scored an own goal, Nico Schlotterbeck’s shot from the left side was knocked just wide of the left post. It was a goalless draw, which meant that the visitors from Germany would advance.
In the second half, Dortmund made the decisive breakthrough
After the change of sides, Warren Zaire Emery wasted a great opportunity, but he headed over the bar from just outside the box. And in the 50th minute the Germans punished, Mats Hummels giving Donnarumma no chance after a corner kick with his head.
PSG had to take the pressure off after that. The first chance to reduce the deficit was thrown away by Ramos, who narrowly missed. In the 61st minute, Nuno Mendes came closest to scoring, but like teammate Zaire Emery, his left-footed shot was just wide of the post.
In the next two chances, the home side only hit the side netting, Dortmund defended with honesty and dedication. Then in the 86th minute, the crossbar was shaken for the third time after Kylian Mbappé’s attempt, and two minutes later Portugal’s Vitinha hit the crossbar.
In stoppage time, Mbappé demanded a penalty, but it wasn’t given and Dortmund advanced to the Champions League final with a 2-0 win. They will find out their opponents on Wednesday when Real Madrid face Bayern.
