A reborn Barcelona is in amazing form in the new year

After one of their worst starts to a season in years, when they crashed out of the Champions League after 20 years and struggled to qualify for next season, Barcelona have picked themselves up after the winter transfer window. Barcelona are on the up after legendary Catalan midfielder Xavi Hernández became the successor to sacked coach Ronald Koeman in November.

In the winter transfer window, the Catalans have suitably replenished a fading squad and have once again put smiles on the faces of Blaugranas fans following the arrival of Spaniard Torres, Arsenal star Aubameyang, the return of legendary midfielder Dani Alves and Adam Traore. Before the national break, they robbed the Sanitago Bernabéu and handed the table leader a humiliating 0:4 defeat.

Young Pedri pulls the Catalan giant with great performances

One of the team’s driving forces is the young midfielder Pedri, who replaced the departing Croatian international Ivan Rakitic in 2020. The Spanish international, who arrived at Camp Nou two years ago from Las Palmas, is taking on an important role in the team and is being compared to another club legend, Andrés Iniesta.

In the weekend’s highlight of the round, Pedri was once again a key figure for his team as he decided the fate of the all-important match with a single goal. And it wasn’t just any goal. On the edge of the box, he bathed the Andalusian defence and was the only one to put his name on the scoresheet with a precise shot.

Pedri makes you forget about former Barcelona player, Croatian Rakitic

He has made us forget about former Barcelona midfielder, Croatian Ivan Rakitic. He left Barcelona just as the young Pedri was arriving in the sunny Catalan capital. And the Croatian midfielder was snapped up by Sevilla, who arrived at the Camp Nou to defend their second place in the table.

But Pedri overshadowed his counterpart on the pitch and Barcelona thus gained another important point in their chase for leaders Real Madrid. Ivan Rakitic donated his full kit to former Barcelona fans after losing the match and left the pitch almost naked, in addition to the disappointment of the result.

The Spanish youngster, who before the end of the year won the prestigious Golden Boy award for the best young footballer in Europe under 21, is repaying Barcelona’s trust and, above all, at 19 years old, has his whole career ahead of him.
