AC Milan’s number one goalkeeper suffered a nasty injury in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Newcastle, and the latest information suggests that he will take some time to recover. So how long will Maignan miss the Rossoneri?

Mike Maignan forced a substitution in the 81st minute against Newcastle when he sat on the pitch with visible muscle pain. He was replaced in goal by Marco Sportiello, AC Milan’s first summer signing.

Italian journalist Daniele Longo had already reported on his health a few dozen hours ago. The French international reportedly suffered a flexor injury.

However, a subsequent MRI scan ruled out a meniscus injury and Longo said Maignano’s condition should be checked on a daily basis.

Then on Thursday morning, Italian media came out with an update on his health. Specifically, Sky Sports Italia claims that Maignan is very likely to miss the two Serie A games against Hellas Verona and Cagliari.

AC Milan registered a very decent start to the season, beating Bologna (2: 0) in the opener, then blasting Torino (4: 1) and winning at AS Roma (2: 1).

But then he got absolutely burnt in the derby against Inter Milan, where Maignan scored five times. It should be noted that the defence did not help him much. In the game against Newcastle, the offensive team was not up to the task.

Maignan missed his team last season, when he was treated for a calf injury for four months. It shouldn’t be so serious now, after all Maignan is a key man for AC.
