Fans have waited long over the last few months for the promised news and updates from the world of LIV Golf. It looks like a partnership with the CW Network has put everything on hold. While there are still only seven events officially hanging on the LIV website, the golfing public already has more information.
As previously announced, the new season is expected to begin on February 24, 2023 in Mexico. Three weeks later, the entire ensemble will move to Arizona, and the event will be played in Florida in late March/early April. It will also be the last tournament before the expected Masters, where LIV and PGA Tour players will face each other for the first time in a long time.
LIV Golf is not interested in competing with the majors at this time. One reason is that there are still many LIV players who can play these tournaments. What their future will be at the majors is still unclear. However, LIV representatives have toyed with the idea of creating majors in the future.
Among other things, a stop in Australia is confirmed, where there should be a lot of interest thanks to one of the biggest stars in world golf. Cameron Smith has had a phenomenal year in 2022, in which he captured The Open and finished the season ranked second in the world rankings. He joined the LIV after the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Other stops will include the Greenbrier course in West Virginia, which hosted PGA Tour tournaments from 2010 to 2019. Seven tournaments will be played in the United States, with the rest visiting other continents around the world, according to the Sports Illustrated website. There will be no shortage of England or Spain.
The American stops include three courses former US President Donald Trump has played. One in Washington, one in Bedmister near New York and the third in Miami, Florida. Donald Trump has previously expressed that he is a big fan of LIV Golf.
Last year, Trump attended one of the tournaments in person when he played in the Friday pro-am exhibition. Moreover, it was at Bedmister where LIV Golf faced the most criticism from protesting fans. They pointed to the victims of September 11, 2001. Indeed, all investigations have led to the conclusion that the terrorists who carried out the biggest terrorist attack in the USA came from Saudi Arabia.
In total, the second season will offer 14 events. All of them will again be played for individual, but also for team placement. There will be 48 players, divided into 12 teams. Only the last episode of the 2023 edition in Saudi Arabia will focus on the team championship.
The final composition of the teams has not yet been released by LIV. The final tournament was originally scheduled to be played at Trump National Doral in Florida, where it was played last year. In the end, the organizers decided to move the tournament to Saudi Arabia, which subsidizes the LIV Golf organization with very generous amounts.
