The Champions League quarter-finals are over and we already know the four semi-finalists who will get closer to the dream trophy. But quarter-finals are also played in other European competitions.
The Europa League is certainly not a weak competition, with Juventus, Sporting, Manchester United and Sevilla currently in it.
Apart from them, there are also Bayer Leverkusen with Adam Hložek and Feyenoord with David Hanck. Spartan fans know who to cheer for tonight.
Leverkusen reached the quarter-finals thanks to their third place in the Champions League and in the opening round of the play-offs they challenged Monaco, who they beat thanks to a win in the return leg.
Two wins against Ferencváros followed and in the quarter-finals Hložek and co. faced a strong Belgian team, Royale Union, who until recently played in the lower competitions.
The opening match ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Belgian side scoring first and Florian Wirtz equalising for the home side in the 82nd minute. The German side must win if they want to advance.
Feyenoord are in a better position. Thanks to their first place in the Europa League, they made it all the way to the eight-finals, where they beat Shakhtar 7-1 in the return leg. But AS Rome followed strong.
David Hanck’s team faced a penalty kick at home, but it was not converted by the visiting Lorenzo Pellegrini and Mats Wieffer scored the winning goal in the second half.
The goal for the Dutch will be to avoid losing in Italy, while a one-goal defeat would at least send the match into extra time. However, the favourite will be the team from the Italian capital.
