The former megatalent Oscar ends up in China. Will he return to Europe or to his homeland?
Oscar will be out of contract in China at the end of the calendar year and it is clear that he will not sign a new one. So the question remains whether the Brazilian, at the age of 32, will opt for a spectacular return to Europe or choose to go to Brazil. Saudi Arabia does not appear to be a realistic option this time. After all, Oscar made enough money in China.

So the question remains whether the Brazilian, at the age of 32, will opt for a spectacular return to Europe or choose to go to Brazil. Saudi Arabia does not appear to be a realistic option this time. After all, Oscar made enough money in China.
Oscar at Chelsea
The London club bought the midfielder for 32 million euros from his native Brazil. At the time, Oscar was 21 years old and one of the world’s greatest talents. The Brazilian impressed the club’s fans in his first games in blue. He scored his first goal for Juventus in the Champions League when he drove his heel around Pirlo and swept in the right corner of Buffon’s goal from the turn. He added one more goal in the 2-2 draw.
The Brazilian is also remembered at Letná in Prague. In the opening match of the Europa League knockout stage, Oscar scored the winner of the 1:0 win for the Blues. The 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge subsequently meant Chelsea were promoted and won the Europa League. Oscar finished his first season on the islands with 12 goals and 12 assists in 64 games.
He spent the next 4 seasons at Chelsea, during which he won 2 league titles and the English League Cup. In total, he accumulated 203 games in a blue jersey with 38 goals and 37 assists. The departure of the Brazilian midfielder is still biting hard for some fans today.
Chinese engagement
When the Chinese league was gaining momentum in 2017, Oscar was one of the first signings. Shanghai SIPG sent 60 million euros to London. The Brazilian has never made any secret of the fact that he went to the Asian country to make money in order to be able to provide for his family and his offspring. He has improved his salary by almost 200%.
At Chelsea Oscar was paid £150,000 a week, while in China he was paid £400,000. In 2019, his salary has increased even further to £563,000 a week, or almost £30 million a year. However, the Chinese government subsequently imposed restrictions on salaries, causing a significant outflow of foreigners.
From a personal point of view, the first two seasons were the best, first with a record of 16+24 and then 13+23. Oscar is considered one of the best players in league history. Oscar’s record as a midfielder in China is 210 games with 61 goals and 111 assists.
Oscar is done in China
Oscar’s current contract expires at the end of 2024, with no more to come. So now the 32-year-old midfielder is considering the possibility of returning to Europe or Brazil. It must be said that it would probably not be for a full big club in European competitions, as the Chinese league is not one of the best competitions and Oscar has been there for a long time.
However, Brazilian Internacional, from which he just transferred to Chelsea, are also interested in the midfielder. Oscar would return to the place where his rich career began. In summing up the Brazilian’s career, it is probably fair to say that his potential could have been directed elsewhere than the Chinese competition.
