The former Arsenal stopper is out! Bordeaux has found a replacement in a Manchester United defender
Former Arsenal stopper Laurent Koscielny had his transfer to Girondins Bordeaux scuppered, family and personal reasons were on the agenda at the time. It wasn’t a happy departure, given the services he performed in a Gunners jersey. The 36-year-old defender is now out of the French outfit as well.
In August 2019, the winner of six trophies in the jersey of the North London outfit left the booth at the Emirates Stadium. And it wasn’t exactly an amicable farewell. The former French international wanted to return to his native country and decided not to travel with the club for the pre-season tour.
So the leader of the cabinet was sold by then-coach Emery for less than £4m to Bordeaux. During his two seasons in the FCGB jersey, Koscielny played 65 games. Now, however, the native of Tully must also leave the team playing in Ligue 1. Currently the 17th team of the French league is trying to save in the top competition, which is also suggested by the changes in the squad and the reduction in the salary requirements of the players.
It is Koscielny who has one of the highest salaries, up to 50 thousand pounds a week. Bordeaux agreed to terminate the contract with the player, but the French club immediately started looking for a new acquisition.
Surprisingly, it is Manchester United’s stopper Phil Jones, who does not have a certain place in the Red Devils’ squad. The Manchester Reds are open to the departure of the twenty-nine-year-old defender.
The Premier League outfit would surely be happy to pay a bigger part of the player’s salary, and also Jones himself wants as much playing time as possible. However, United coach Ralf Rangnick has the final say on the transfer, as he can decide on the form and possible non-implementation of the transfer.
