The football public sharply criticizes the referee after the Prague derby! Does it help anything?
Sparta dominated the Prague derby in Eden, winning 2:0. However, the camps of the old rivals agreed that the performance of the referees was not convincing at all. Can Czech football find quality referees?
Sparta dominated the Prague derby in Eden, winning 2: 0. Anyway, the camps of the old rivals agreed that the performance of the referees was not convincing at all. Can Czech football find quality referees?
The nomination of referees for the MOL Cup quarter-final match between Slavia and Sparta was criticised even before the opening kick-off. The main referee Pavel Orel faced a lot of pressure even before the performance.
Unfortunately, the public’s prophecy came true and Orel and his assistants did not act confidently in the prestigious match, even though they had VAR technology at their disposal. The match commentators themselves were not surprised at some of the statements.
Big bite? Well, it won’t be any other way, Czech football has started a cleansing and changes in its old structures. Of course, now there is a lack of referees and Radek Příhoda wants to bet on young talents in the future.
But before the results come, Czech football has to reckon with birth pains. It will simply take some time before the young referees are whistled. In all fairness, it’s probably better to watch a referee’s failed performance on both sides than a clear cut on one side, don’t you think?
Public reaction to the referees’ performance
Pavel Orel and the assistants must know full well that their performance was far from European. Moreover, the footballing public also came down hard on Orel.
Anyway, one learns from mistakes, hopefully the domestic referees will improve rapidly in the near future.
“His biggest mistake was that he was too nice to the players. This supports the terrible vice of our football, when after every (even correct) verdict a group of people from one or the other team descend on the referee and boo him. This injustice is insane.”
“The Eagles made the game a total cabaret. Two crazy performances in three days. If Příhoda is sane, he’ll take Eagle off the roster immediately.”
