The football public praises the Ostrava backdrop! Shouldn’t Vítkovice play more often?

The Czech national team defeated Belarus 1:0 in their fourth qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup. The match offered absolute game dominance of the Czech Republic and fierce defense of a tenacious opponent. Some fans may have expected more goals, but let’s rejoice in the win. Let’s look at the failure of the world champions from France (1: 1 against Bosnia and Herzegovina) or the failure of the European champions from Italy (1: 1 against Bulgaria).

Fans in front of TV screens and football journalists also noticed the Ostrava scenery during the siege of the Belarusian sanctuary. Although the city’s stadium in Vítkovice was far from full, the fans still shouted original chants, often adapted from the chants of Baník Ostrava.

The public, including the big names, are naturally asking, doesn’t Ostrava deserve more opportunities? The big question is whether the Czech team can get better support elsewhere.

Ondřej Novotný, an Ostrava native and owner of the Oktagon MMA organization, has prepared an interesting statement. “The best part of the fight was the fans. And so I ask why Ostrava regularly gets the most “shit” fights when elsewhere the cheering isn’t half as good.”

The answer would probably interest not only Novotny. The only compelling reason is the long distance from Prague and the logistically complicated relocation of the team. It would also be inconvenient for foreign journalists, etc. Anyway, I think Ostrava deserves more games and better opponents.

Ondřej Zlámal, a seasoned football journalist, saw the whole situation similarly. “The players went around the stadium and went to the cauldron. If I could decide, I would play more often in Vítkovice.”

Other reactions from the football public

Sports journalist Ondřej Nováček tweeted with critical undertones. He took a beating from a large variety of Czech fans for this comment. “Why are you spitting? Our team fought hard, except for the productivity there was not much to criticize. The game was entertaining despite the poor result. And three points are three points,” wrote one fan.

After the game, the new captain of the national football team, Tomáš Souček, also commented on the match. “Important points for the World Cup qualification! Thank you for the support of the fans, you were great! Let’s get ready for the next match. Keep your fingers crossed for us on Sunday.”

Wrote Arsenal fan Jindřich Šídlo. The price of every win is extremely important in football. For the jaded fans, this fact only comes late in the dark ages.
