Formula One is entering a new era next year. A set of new technical regulations will also come into play to slow down the new monoposts. Why?
For a simple reason – F1 management is hoping to make it more attractive during grand prix and more wheel-to-wheel battles. In this respect, it should also reduce the number of boring races. Formula 1 is also trying to make the teams as balanced as possible.
Recently, drivers have had the opportunity to try out the new monoblocks in their simulators. However, after this experience, Lando Norris commented that the car was not as enjoyable to drive compared to just the current car.
Carlos Sainz agreed with his statement. The fact that the new formula is slower was also confirmed by Max Verstappen.
“The test of the new car was fine, it’s just a bit slower. But in the end we still have to wait to see what it will be like in the real car. There are still a lot of uncertainties at the moment, so I honestly don’t pay that much attention to it,” Verstappen explained in an interview with Motorsport.
Sergio Pérez, Verstappen’s teammate, said that compared to this year’s cars, the new ones are inferior, especially in terms of handling. The thirty-one year old Mexican expressed his opinion that the current cars are the best in F1 history.
“They are the best cars we have ever driven. Compared to the new monoposts, unfortunately everything will be wrong, but I hope that in terms of driving only,” Pérez said in an interview with Motorsport website.
According to Pérez, as we enter a new era, the team that understands the behaviour of the new car the best and follows it during development will also have a big advantage over the others. He also added that it will take years for others to catch up.
“But I think Formula 1 needed the change for many reasons, including financial reasons. So we have to wait and see what these new regulations bring,” Pérez concluded.
