In Europe, the fight for the Golden Boot is on

The Golden Boot is a prestigious award published by the French magazine L’Équipe. It is awarded to the footballer who scores the most goals in the previous season in any of the top European football leagues. These points are achieved by multiplying the goals scored by the coefficient of the league in which the player played. The toughest leagues, of course, have the highest coefficient.

The Goal website has looked at possible candidates for the award from the top five leagues in Europe, namely the English Premier League, the Spanish La Liga, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A and the French Ligue 1.

The Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, is the standout among the elite group of world football’s biggest stars. In the top 5 leagues of Europe he has an excellent third place. Only the Serbian international Dusan Vlahovic and the Pole Robert Lewandowski are ahead of him.

Patrik Schick is third behind Lewandowski and Vlahovic

The first place is still held by Bayern Munich’s canon Robert Lewandowski of Poland. He received the prestigious award last season and, even at 33 years of age, continues to dominate European football in terms of goals scored. He scored 41 times last season and is well on his way to the award this year. In 25 matches he has scored a respectable 28 goals and with 56 points he is in clear first place.

The second place belongs to Juventus Turin striker Dusan Vlahovic. After his winter transfer from Fiorentina to the Old Lady for €70 million, he continues to perform well and has scored four goals in eight games for Juve so far. In total, he has 21 goals and 42 points.

The aforementioned Patrik Schick is breathing down the Serb’s neck. Although he is currently struggling with an injury, his goal tally has stood at an excellent 20 goals in the same number of games. With forty points, he left behind such aces as Real Madrid’s fourth man Karim Benzema with the same number of goals (but with more games played) and fifth man Ciro Immobile from Lazio Rome with twenty goals.
