Generational talent. That’s what you could call Jude Bellingham. At the age of 16 he started playing in the Championship for Birmingham, where he played 44 games in his first season, scoring 4 goals and adding 2 assists.
Subsequently, he had his pick of offers, with all the English big clubs wanting him. But Bellingham was not sure about the workload and so he followed in the footsteps of three years older Jadon Sancho and went to Borussia Dortmund. Although transfers abroad are not that common among English players, Jude knew that BVB was the best club for his development. The club relies on young players.
And it was a hit and miss, just like Sancho. Bellingham has quickly settled into the starting line-up, and in his second season in the Bundesliga, he is already one of the driving forces for the yellow and black. And he’s still only 18 years old!
The central box-to-box midfielder has a huge radius of action, one moment you see him helping out the defence, the next he’s complementing Borussia’s attacking action. He has a great physique and his age is also admirable for his vision of the game and game intelligence. He can also help with numbers, with a record of 5+9 this season.
It’s no wonder that almost all the world’s big clubs are queuing up for him. But some are put off by his price tag, with Borussia asking over €100 million for their gem. According to BILD, Real Madrid and Liverpool are the biggest suitors for Bellingham’s services at the moment.
Bellingham could be a good fit for the Santiago Bernabéu. Los Blancos would like to acquire him next year, as the forward is looking for a replacement for the ageing trio of Casemiro – Kroos – Modric. So there should be no danger of Bellingham’s talents being wasted on the bench.
Liverpool would be an equally good option. The centre of midfield is perhaps the weakest part of the Reds’ lineup and Bellingham should have no problem breaking into the starting lineup.
So it will be interesting to see where the talented youngster ends up. But with his character and mentality, it’s almost guaranteed that he’ll make his way anywhere.
