The fact is that the departure of the captain would definitely reduce the club’s wage bill. After all, Barça saved five million euros on the early retirement of Gerard Piqué alone. Their spending on wages is now over the limit by 26 million euros.

There is also a third option, namely to finish the season at Barcelona and extend his contract for another six months with a significant salary reduction so that Busquets can leave for MLS before the start of the 2024 season. This would give the club even more time to find a replacement for their defensive midfielder.
