Karolína Muchová had to overcome Maria Sakkariová, the tournament’s No. 8 seed, in the first round. She managed to do it without much difficulty in two sets. She was much more worried in the second round, finally defeating Podoroska after almost two hours of fighting.
The duels with Begu and Avenesyanova followed, in which the Moravian tennis player lost only twelve games. Thanks to this, she secured her first ever participation in the quarterfinals at the top of the clay court season.
Muchová started well against Pavlyuchenkova. She quickly took the lead with a break, only to lose her serve in the sixth game of the opening set. The game evened out after that and the opening set lasted almost an hour, with Muchová eventually winning it 7:5.
The second set was clearly in the hands of the Moravian tennis player. The Russian tennis player, the 2021 finalist there, lost her serve twice, while she herself won only one break point opportunity. Muchova won the second set 6::2.
The Olomouc native was the first to secure a semifinal berth. She will face the better of Sabalenka – Svitolina in the final. She will definitely not have an easy job ahead of her.
By advancing to the semifinals, Muchová will also significantly improve her ranking in the WTA rankings. Before the start of the French Open she was ranked 43rd, in the upcoming edition of the ranking she will be ranked nineteenth.
This would also mean equaling her career high for her. If she could dominate the whole tournament, she could even make it into the elite ten.
