The Czech duo Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova are in contention for their second Roland Garros trophy. This time, as in the semi-finals, the Polish-American duo, this time consisting of Iga Świąteková and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, stood in their way.

The Czechs entered the match very quickly, taking the serve from Świątek and quickly leading 2: 0. Krejcikova and Siniakova allowed the first game to go to 4::0. The service was held by the Pole. But it didn’t change the game picture, which was clearly in favour of the Czech pair.

Unlike in the semifinals, when Krejčíková was the better player in the pair, Siniaková dominated the court. Of course, the fatigue of the last weeks was evident on Barbora. The Polish-American pair managed to pull away from 1::5 to 4::5, but with Krejcikova serving, the Czechs had already finished the first set and were within reach of their third Grand Slam trophy together.

This time Świąteková entered the second set successfully and took the first game with Mattekova-Sands. But Siniakova shone again in the next service game and it was mainly thanks to her that the top two seeds were able to go on a tear again. But then the Hradec Králové native gave away the game with her service errors and it was 2:2.

Świąteková lost her serve in this situation and when at 2::4 from the Polish-American perspective Matteková-Sands lost her next game on serve, Barbora Krejčíková was within reach of getting her dream double.

And this time Siniakova served excellently and immediately it was 40::0 and three match points. The first one was not yet used by the Czech duo, but the second one ended the match for the player who was the best player today. Siniakova’s cruising backhand will forever go down in history as the last shot of Roland Garros in women’s doubles.

As of Monday, Krejcikova will not only be the world number 15 in singles, but also the new world number one in doubles. The tale of the girl from Ivancice is now complete. The Czech Republic will take 3 trophies from Roland Garros – one from the women’s singles in both adult and junior, and one from the women’s doubles.

Moreover, Krejcikova is the first player since Mary Pierce in 2000 who also managed to win a double at a Grand Slam.
