  • The decisive goal was scored by substitute Ayoze Pérez
  • Coach Marcelino was pleased with the performance of goalkeeper Conde

The two teams drew 2-2 in the opening game of the new La Liga season. While Villarreal did well against Atlético Madrid, Sevilla drew at Las Palmas.

In the last five matches between the two teams, there have been three draws, with both teams winning once. It looked like a draw for a long time this time too.

Arnaut Danjuma scored in the second minute, his second league goal. Sevilla equalised in the sixth minute of the first half, with Dodi Lukebakio beating the opposition defence.

The home side were more active after the change of sides, but twenty-five-year-old Diego Conde made several fantastic saves. It seemed that the visitors would be satisfied with a draw. However, substitute Ayoze Pérez struck in the 95th minute to secure victory for his team.

Coach Marcelino’s assessment

“The fairest would have been a draw, but in the end we were able to take advantage of this chance and we leave with a win and very satisfied with the victory. After two very difficult games we have four points out of six possible,” said coach Marcelino to the club website.

Words of praise also went to goalkeeper Diego Conde, who arrived during the summer transfer period from Leganes. “Diego played an important role. He made some very good saves. I’m happy with that. Your goalkeeper has to be decisive to win games and today he was,” revealed the coach .

“Ayoze played half an hour and his goal gave us three points. That’s a thought we should all have. I think the five changes changed the course of the game. It is vital to have substitutes ready because they can win a lot of points by the end of the season,” concluded the 59-year-old strategist.
