The first nominee is Wissam Ben Yedder. He had an excellent second half of the season, taking Monaco from mid-table to fourth place. The team captain scored twenty-one goals and assisted four times.
The pleasant surprise of the season is undoubtedly Marseille, which is in second place and playing the semifinals of the European Conference League. The main reason? Dimitri Payet, author of twelve goals and ten assists.
Even championship Paris has its horse in the nomination. Naturally, it is Kylian Mbappé, the league’s most productive player and a candidate to win the Ballon d’Or. A record of twenty-four goals and sixteen assists speaks for itself.
Martin Terrier, the winger who scored twenty-one times and assisted four times for Rennes, and Lucas Paqueta, the creator of Olympique Lyon (8+6), also made it into the top five.
Where is Messi, you ask? He’s not, he didn’t fit in the nomination. Four goals and thirteen assists weren’t enough to make the Top 5, even though WhoScored rates him as the second best player in the competition behind Mbappe.
