Raheem Sterling is unused at Manchester City, hence unhappy. There is talk that he would prefer a return to Liverpool!
Raheem Sterling is unused at Manchester City, hence unhappy. There is talk that he would prefer a return to Liverpool!
Since the start of the league season, Raheem Sterling has only played three games in which he has played more than 60 minutes. Otherwise, he has seen the field as a substitute. Playing 29 minutes, 32 minutes, 26 minutes, 3 minutes and 24 minutes are definitely not what Sterling would like to practice.
He definitely had a more dignified position at Manchester City in the past few years, he was one of the cornerstones of Guardiola’s selection. Not to be! He scored 18 goals in the 2017/2018 season, and 17 a year later. In the 2019/2020 season, he even managed to reach the 20-goal mark. Last season was already average by his standards, with 10 goals and 7 assists.
With Phil Foden’s increasing performance, Sterling is no longer feeling maximum confidence from coach Guardiola. Foden is simply preferred, that’s the situation. Sterling feels it and is thinking about a change of scenery.
According to El Nacional, a move to Barcelona is in the cards. The latter could take Sterling on loan with a possible transfer option. The Catalan club is planning to exercise this option in the January transfer window if new coach Xavi chooses him as a suitable candidate to strengthen the squad.
Sterling himself said in an interview at the Financial Times Business of Sports Summit event last month. I’ve always thought that one day I would like to leave the Premier League and try a foreign league.”
“I’d learn other languages, get to know other cultures. I like the French language, I like Spanish,” he added indirectly of two likely destinations he could operate in.
Still in play, however, is a return to Liverpool, where Sterling has made a name for himself. “Would I ever go back to Liverpool? I have to tell you honestly that I love Liverpool,” he said last year when asked about his former engagement.
“Liverpool is forever in my heart. It’s a team that has given me so much, it’s the team that got me to the highest level,” the 26-year-old Kingston, Jamaica, native says.
We’ll see what Sterling decides to do next in his career.
