The end of a great era. David de Gea ends his Manchester United career with a poignant farewell message. What could this mean for Sparta and Kovar?

It’s decided. In some ways, at least. David de Gea will leave Manchester United after 12 long years. The move has caught the attention of the Czech public. Matěj Kovář is preparing for the new season with the club, while Sparta Prague would like to acquire him for one more year.

It’s decided. In some ways, at least. David de Gea will leave Manchester United after 12 long years. The move has caught the attention of the Czech public. Matěj Kovář is preparing for the new season with the club, while Sparta Prague would like to acquire him for one more year.

The legendary Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to England 12 years ago. David de Gea came to Old Trafford from Atlético Madrid as a great talent with the potential to be the best goalkeeper on the planet. He had a bit of a spell, but then he started to shine.

For at least four years, he lived up to his potential and was among the world’s best. But then a turning point came, the Spanish goalkeeper’s performance became unstable, it stopped being the same. There was regular speculation about his future.

Now the speculation is over. De Gea will leave Manchester United to make way for a new number one. This should be André Onana, who was previously at Inter Milan and previously played for Ajax Amsterdam.

“We have achieved a lot since Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to the club. Whenever I could put on the Manchester United jersey, I was proud of it. I was equally proud to lead and represent this team. It’s the biggest club in the world, it was an honour that few footballers get to receive,” the farewell message read.

It is worth noting that de Gea was the last player to win a league title with Manchester United.

Will Matej Kovar stay in Manchester?

The news about the end of the Spanish goalkeeper at Old Trafford quickly circulated on Czech social networks. The reason is simple. In recent weeks, the future of the promising goalkeeper from the Czech Republic has been discussed.

Matěj Kovář has had a great season in the Prague Sparta jersey, and the clips of his performances have been circulating around Europe and shared on social media. He started his preparation for the new year in England, but Sparta would like to get him for one more year.

What are its chances? Even this move didn’t suggest that. Solving the goalkeeping question at Manchester United now resembles a chess game. De Gea may be out, but as mentioned, Onana will arrive.

The blacksmith, however, could have the new number one’s back. Although Dean Henderson is still in the team, according to speculation in the British media, he is on his way out, which would potentially mean a chance and more space for the Moravian native.

One thing is certain. The footballing public in this country is split in two. One half wants Kovar to get a chance at Old Trafford. The other half wants the Moravian goalkeeper to play regularly, ideally at Letná in Prague, according to Sparta fans.
