The elimination of the tournament leaders and the historic achievement of Gasquet. The opening events on grass are coming to a close!
The opening grass tournaments of the year are in Stuttgart, Germany and Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. In both tennis events, the top seeds were surprisingly eliminated on Thursday. Spectators also witnessed a historic win by Frenchman Gasquet. The home fans still have their handcuffs on fire at both tournaments.

Spectators also witnessed a historic win by Frenchman Gasquet. The home fans still have their handcuffs on fire at both tournaments.
Tournament number one Daniil Medvedev bade farewell to the tennis action in the Netherlands in his very first match. He was just as inglorious as he was at the start of the recent French Open. The Russian tennis player won the first set against the Frenchman Mannarino on Thursday, but in the second set he lost his serve at 4:5 and the deciding set was already a clear victory for the thirty-four-year-old Frenchman.
Mannarino’s compatriot Richard Gasquet, two years older than him, had an even bigger victory, rewriting the historical records of world tennis. At the Boss Open in Stuttgart, he won the tie-break of the odd-numbered sets to beat the top-seeded Greek Tsitsipas.
This win is number 600 in his career. The Frenchman became only the fourth active player to surpass this mark.
“I’ve been playing tennis on the circuit for twenty years and I’ve won 600 matches, it’s great. I’m thrilled and of course I will try to win more matches,” he rejoiced after winning his match against the world number five. If Gasquet enjoys more wins in Germany at the Boss Open, he has a chance to celebrate his 37th birthday in style here in Sunday’s final.
Next schedule for both tournaments
Home tennis player Jan-Lenard Struff will try to put an end to Gasquet’s celebrations on Sunday today. He is playing in great form here and has not lost a set so far. In the second round, the finalist from the Madrid Maters also took on the 16th ranked tennis player in the world, American Paul.
The two Americans in Stuttgart, however, are still continuing to play. Frances Tiafoe, after beating Jiri Lehecka, will try to break into the final battles of the tournament against Italy’s Musetti. If the American wins, he will break into the top ten of the ATP rankings. His compatriot Taylor Fritz, who is already part of the top 10 ranking, will also play his quarterfinal match on Friday.
The home fans in Hertogenbosch also have a representative in the quarter-finals. Tallon Griekspoor. The fourth-ranked player will be very keen to reach his second career triumph on the ATP circuit. He enjoyed the first one at the very beginning of this year in Pune, India.
He will not have it easy, on Friday he faces Australian De Minaur, who is very good on the fast surface. This year, he played in the Australian Open eight-finals and won the Acapulco tournament. Andy Murray’s mission at the Nottingham Challenger should not escape the attention of tennis fans.
