Brighton welcomed Wolves in the 21st round of the Premier League
Wolves had the opening chance of the game in the eighth minute. But Pedro Neto’s shot was knocked down for a corner by the Brighton defence. It was a similar story at the other end, where Danny Welbeck’s attempt ended up on the Brighton defenders.
The first 20 minutes were mainly Brighton’s play, with Wolves waiting for the fast breaks. These were mainly initiated by Portugal’s Neto in the absence of Hwang Hee-chan. And in the 22nd minute he got himself into a promising position, but narrowly missed.
Jan Paul van Hecke then threatened for Brighton, but Wolverhampton’s goalkeeper coped and cleared the ball out for a corner. The first half was capped by a Joao Pedro finish, which José Sá had no problem with. Despite the home side’s dominance, the game went to the stands goalless.
The second half didn’t offer a goal either
The second half was opened by a combination of the visitors. But at the end of it Matheus Cunha only goalkeeper Jason Steele. The Brazilian striker also got a shot off, but in a good position he punishingly missed. Brighton survived a great chance from their opponents.
Pedro threatened at the other end. But as in the first half, his finish was brought down by the Yellow and Black defence. Brighton’s defence then left Craig Dawson free in the whitewash, but one of the league’s best headers went over.
In the 75th minute, Neto finished after a clever run. But his right foot chose the wrong spin and missed the back post by a lot. Wolves’ breakaways were causing the home side trouble, with Mario Lemina failing to beat Steele after another one.
Pedro could have shot inside the box in the setup, but he took too long and didn’t finish at all. Brighton jumped up to seventh place thanks to the goalless draw, while the visitors from the West Midlands moved within a point of tenth-placed Newcastle United.
