World number one doubles players Barbora Krejcikova and Kateřina Siniaková will fight for their first title at the prestigious event in Indian Wells. In a repeat of this year’s Australian Open final, they defeated the Japanese pair Aoyama/Shibahara in two sets.
Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova have already won all the Grand Slams together in doubles. However, the trophy from the American tournament in Indian Wells is still missing in the collection of the Czech-Moravian duo. They failed to win the last final, but now they can make up for it after four years.
This season, the pair from the Czech Republic continues their dominance from the last few years. 10 wins from 10 matches is a clear proof of that. In the semi-finals, the K+S duo faced Ayoama and Shihabara of Japan, just like in the final of this year’s Australian Open.
The first set was decided by a single break in the fifth game in favour of Krejcikova and Siniakova, otherwise the game was very even. But the loss of the first set seemed to completely put the Japanese pair down.
The second set only confirmed the form of Krejcicova and Siniakova, who managed to win three consecutive serves from their opponents and took a comfortable 5:0 lead. After that, there was a small hesitation, but it did not change the fact that the Czech pair advanced to the final of the so-called fifth Grand Slam, as the tournament in Indian Wells is called.
Krejcikova and Siniakova will have a very tough match in the final. They will be up against Germany’s Laura Siegemund and Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Both have a wealth of doubles experience and also boast one Grand Slam triumph in their collection. Together, they will play only their fourth match, but they have enough quality to trouble the Czech pair.
The women’s doubles final match will take place today at 19:00. It will be broadcast live on O2 TV Sport.
