MMA coach Martin Karaivanov may have revealed the date of the UFC champion’s defense on his social media. When and where will Jiri Prochazka fight?
When Jiri Prochazka won the UFC title in June in a bloody war with Glover Teixeira with just half a minute left in the fight, a rematch began to be discussed soon after. While the newly crowned champion targeted a December tournament in Las Vegas, the legendary challenger from Brazil pushed him to a different date.
In fact, the UFC, the top MMA league in the world, has announced its next headliner for January 2023. It will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Teixeira would have a significant home crowd advantage. In the end, though, neither of those dates may work out.
The December gala is speculated to feature the return of legend Jon Jones. The January date, on the other hand, was supposed to take Walker’s management off the table. So it’s all pointing to another news story that has shaken the world of mixed martial arts.
That’s because on Monday, the UFC organization released news on its Instagram for next year. The UFC’s spectacular return to Australia in February. The UFC 284 tournament will take place in Perth, and that could be the new date for Prochazka’s title defense.
At least that’s what his coach Martin Karaivanov is hinting at. He shared the aforementioned tournament on his Twitter with the caption “hmmm” and a winking smiley face. Does this mean the long-awaited information about the defence of the most successful Czech MMA fighter in history?
