The Danes want to overturn their deteriorating form at the Euros! There are no shortage of proven names or Premier League experience in the nomination
Along with Belgium or Switzerland, one of the dark horses of the tournament. Denmark may be experiencing a similar departure from Europe’s top tier as the Czechs did after Euro 2004. The northerners also finished third at the last European championship, but then got burnt out in Qatar. The tournament in Germany will indicate what will happen next.

Denmark would like to build on the last European Championship, where they finished in the semi-finals and were very unlucky to lose to England. The team is still led by coach Rasmus Hjulmand, who was also in charge of the unsuccessful World Cup in Qatar. There, the Danes were knocked out in the group stage.
There is no shortage of proven names
The manager is taking most of the proven horses to the tournament, even though many of them have long since passed their ceiling. Kasper Schmeichel, at 37, is still Anderlecht’s number one anyway, while Christian Eriksen occasionally plays for Manchester United.
Neither of them are outright mainstays at the club or the national team anymore, yet both are likely to play. Other long-term figures such as Simon Kjaer or Yussuf Poulsen are in the nomination more for passing on experience and for last-minute opportunities.
Premier League experience
Most of the important Danish players have already experienced a major championship. None of them are in downright great form, but a lot of them are kicking in England, which is of course the best test. Brentford have three internationals, at least Christian Norgaard is an aspirant for the starting line-up.
The midfield is literally loaded from the Premier League. Other names are Norgaard’s Brentford teammate Mathias Jensen, the aforementioned Eriksen or Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, who has been among the top six in the British Isles for the last few years. Under Ange Postecoglou, however, he rather took turns. Rasmus Hojlund will operate on the top line.
No one will underestimate the Danes
The Danes have been considered dark horses in past tournaments, but after two consecutive World Cup appearances plus the semi-finals of Euro 2021, they are no longer underestimated. On the other hand, the team is a bit jaded, lacking a fresh young wind, which was already evident in the debacle at the World Championship in Qatar.
This time in the group perhaps the biggest favourite is England, plus Serbia, who have also been to the last two World Cups. Slovenia met the Danes in the qualifiers and played evenly matched games with them. Any progression to the eight finals is the number one goal.
