The French Open, the second grand slam of the season, starts on Sunday 30 May. However, none of our tennis players managed to qualify for the main event.

Lukas Rosol appeared in the men’s qualifying for the French Open. However, the thirty-five year old experienced tennis player and two-time Davis Cup winner was not able to beat Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves in the first round.

Twenty-four-year-old Zdeněk Kolář was also unable to get past the first hurdle. He ended up on the racket of Italian Andrea Pellegrini. But the best chances for promotion to the elite were given to Tomas Macháč.

However, even Macháč will not appear in the main part of the French Open. The 20-year-old talented tennis player surprisingly lost to Manuel Guinard from France and will have to wait for his next Grand Slam participation.

The Czech Republic was also represented in the women’s section. However, Tereza Smitková, who was also among the elite 100 in the past, succumbed to the American Hailey Baptiste.

Only Jiri Vesely will be among our representatives at the top of the clay court season. Among the women we can look forward to Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitova, Karolina Muchová, Markéta Vondroušová, Barbora Krejčíková, Maria Bouzková, Katerina Siniakova, Kristýna Pliskova and Tereza Martincová.
