In September, the Czech team will face an important battle in the Davis Cup qualification barrage. This was decided by the draw in London on Thursday. Jaroslav Navrátil’s team will enter the match as favourites, who will they face?
“The draw is acceptable, there were certainly some unpleasant opponents. We have a great chance to stay in the qualification for the World Group.” Czech captain Jaroslav Navrátil commented on the draw. The Czech team was assigned an opponent from Israel.
This team is not nearly as good as the Czech team in singles. The highest ranked player is Yishai Oliel, who is currently ranked 345th in the world.
Ben Patael is 481st and the highest ranked player in doubles is the almost 45-year-old Jonathan Erlich.
An interesting figure in the Israeli team is Dudi Sela. However, the former 29th player in the world has been picking up one loss after another lately and is preparing to end his career at the end of the season.
The Czechs have to qualify for the barrage due to a 0:4 defeat to Argentina in the qualifiers in March. The team was missing the current Czech number one, Jiri Vesely, whose return Jaroslav Navrátil is counting on.
But it will be very difficult for the Czech captain to choose a suitable team. Jiří Lehečka, Tomáš Macháč, Vít Kopřiva and Dalibor Svrčina or Jonáš Forejtek are also in form.
