The Czech Tennis Federation announced the Olympic nomination. Kvitova and Pliskova are not missing, Vesely is not going
He has had his first training as a Liberec player. Ondřej Novotný (23) is on a two-year loan from Sparta. He talked to Ruik about how the engagement under Jested was born.
The Czech Tennis Federation has announced the list of tennis players who will defend the Czech colours at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. The biggest stars are not missing on the list, but of course it was impossible to get to all of them. Which specific names will compete for medals in Japan?
Czech women’s tennis is enjoying a successful era. Barbora Krejcikova won Rolland Garros. There are 4 Czechs in the top 30. Couldn’t get to all of them.
Only the best have earned a nomination. They are Karolína Plíšková, Petra Kvitová, Barbora Krejčíková and Markéta Vondroušová. In doubles, the Czech Republic will be represented by the pairs Krejcikova, Siniakova and Pliskova, Vondrousova.
The Czech is higher than Vondroušová in the current ranking, but according to the criteria of the International Tennis Federation, the so-called protected ranking, which speaks for Vondroušová, takes precedence.
It is not so famous among men. There is only one Czech tennis player in the top 100 – Jiri Vesely. However, he apologized to the federation and will not compete in the Olympic tournament. The reason is considerable fatigue after the Covid-19. The men’s tournament will be the first time since 1900 without Czech participation.
The postponed Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo will take place from 23 July to 8 August. The tennis tournament will be scheduled from 24 July to 1 August. Petra Kvitová will defend her bronze medal from Rio de Janeiro.
The third place was also won five years ago in Brazil by Lucie Šafářová and Barbora Strýcová in the women’s doubles and Lucie Hradecká and Radek Štěpánek in the mix.
