The Czech coefficient improved thanks to the Slavic win! With whom will we fight for the key position?

After Thursday evening, only the Czech champion in the form of Prague Slavia remained on the European scene. Sparta finished in the ECL semi-finals, twice losing to the leading team of the Serbian Super League. Partizan Belgrade won 1-0 at Letná and 2-1 at home. The Czech coefficient improved!

The Czech football environment now has to rely on Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges. Slavia defeated Fenerbahce 3:2 in Eden and added 0.400 points to the coefficient ranking.

And what is at stake? For the 15th position, which ensures the country 5 participants in the European Cups for the 2023/24 season. Before the ECL rematches, the Czech Republic was in 17th place and on Thursday we were very close to the coveted 15th position.

All we needed was for Sparta to get at least a draw in Serbia, or for Greek PAOK not to win against Midtjylland. But neither of these events happened.

So the Czech coefficient improved, but we currently share the 15th-16th place with Greece. Slavia were awarded the Friday’s EKL semi-final draw by Austrian LASK Linz, which could bring more important points to the Czech coefficient.

This team finished 8th in the Austrian top competition, one place worse than Rapid Vienna.

Why is Vienna mentioned? Because Prague Sparta faced Rapid in the second round of the Champions League last year and advanced (3: 2).

However, it should be noted that the Linz footballers went through their ECL group like a knife through butter. The score 16::1, 16 points and not a single loss is a solid card.

Our competitors

The positive news is that our competitors also have one representative in Europe. Moreover, they all have a relatively difficult draw.

Galatasaray had the worst result, they will play the famous Barcelona in the EL. However, the competitors in the ECL do not have the easiest lot either. PAOK got KAA Gent, where ex-Slav Michael Ngadeu is based. FC Copenhagen will face again the strong PSV Eindhoven.
