The Czech coefficient got a shot in the first round of the European Cups! How many points do we score and where do we stand?

Finally, a Czech fan can be a little bit happy! Slavia started the day in Prague with a 3-1 win over Union Berlin. Later, the outsider from North Bohemia also won, Jablonec defeated the favoured Cluj 1-0. The only Czech team that did not start their European journey with a win is Sparta Prague.

Finally, a Czech fan can be a little bit happy! Slavia started the day in Prague with a 3-1 win over Union Berlin. Later, the outsider from North Bohemia also won, Jablonec defeated the favoured Cluj 1:0. The only Czech team that didn’t start their European journey with a win was Sparta Prague, who drew 0:0 in Copenhagen.

What do these results mean in the mathematics of European coefficients? Czech teams are fighting for the key 15th position this season, which we have lost for next season.

This means that in the 2022/23 season only 4 Czech teams will take to the European turf. However, now it’s about the future and specifically about the 2023/24 season, in which Czech football would need 5 representatives again.

After the embarrassing European qualifiers, in which Slavia dropped down to the “weakest” European Conference League and where Viktoria from Plzeň and CSKA Sofia from Bulgaria were eliminated, some fans have already broken the stick over Czech club football.

But the opening round of the European Cups has started extremely well for Czech teams! With two wins and a draw, we have 1,000 points and have climbed to 17th place.

We are currently only 0.400 points behind the 15th place Croatians, which is one win. The Croats have only one representative in the European Cup.

But it’s not as easy as it may seem. The table is packed and it’s really even. Close behind is Turkey, who also have 3 representatives in Europe, and Denmark, who are currently only 22nd, but have 4 teams in the game, could be dangerous!

The fight for 15th place is also being followed by the Swiss statistics site Swiss Footbal Data, which notes a good round from Young Boys and Basel (win, draw), but also praises the Serbian teams (Crvena Zvezda and Partizan) who won their matches. Thus, Serbia is relatively well clear in the fight for the Top 15 and maybe even ahead of Belgium!
