The Czech Ballon d’Or would now be clearly dominated by Patrik Schick

In the Golden Ball poll for the best Czech footballer, striker Patrik Schick should win for the first time this season, because during the autumn part of the season, which was a great success for him, he managed to gain a sufficient lead over other footballers.

The Golden Ball of the Czech Republic is awarded annually. The record holder is Petr Čech, who has won twelve times. The last two editions of the poll have been dominated by midfielder Tomáš Souček, who plays for West Ham.

The favourite to win the award in the 2021/2022 season is striker Patrik Schick, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen. He has a huge lead after the autumn part of the season, having scored 826 points from journalists.

In second place is midfielder Tomas Soucek, who is 207 points behind Schick. The third position belongs to another central midfielder, Antonin Barak, who plays for Italian side Verona.

Schick helped the Czech national football team significantly at this year’s Euro. Our national team was knocked out in the quarter-finals, but the Czech striker still scored 5 goals at the tournament. Together with Cristiano Ronaldo he became the top scorer, but the Portuguese recorded one more assist.

In the 21/22 season so far, he has scored 16 goals and recorded 1 assist in the German Bundesliga. He only needed 14 games to do it. With his team, he is currently 4th in the German league.

Sixteen goals scored is a great achievement. Especially if we look at the scorers’ table. Schick is the second best scorer, as Robert Lewandowski is the top scorer with 3 more goals. Schick was slightly held back by injury, so he didn’t play for a month.

Patrik Schick has already broken one record this season. Sixteen goals scored brought the record in Leverkusen, as no other player scored so many goals in the first half of the season. He also equalled the best scoring performance by a Czech player in one of the top five leagues in Europe.

In the Golden Ball of the Czech Republic, voting is done in two rounds, after the autumn part and then after the spring part, the overall winner will be announced after the season.
