The new owners have not brought the Blues any luck so far. They may be bringing in expensive reinforcements to Stamford Bridge, but the desired effect has not been forthcoming. After 23 rounds of the Premier League, the London side is in 11th position in the table, 20 points behind the leaders and 13 points behind the top five.
Negative score (38:39), more league losses than wins, lacklustre and unsavoury performance. The situation is not good at all. Overall, under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea have played 31 competitive games, won 15 and lost 11.
Currently, Chelsea are waiting to win three competitive matches. It failed to beat Aston Villa, then lost at Liverpool and at home to Wolves. The pressure is mounting, the fans are angry. How long before the cup of patience runs out?
Pochettino, meanwhile, was coming in as a big name. He managed PSG, for example, and has done decently well with Tottenham in the past. But so far things are not looking good at all and it seems only a matter of time before he is out of a job.
His sacking is being mentioned more and more in the foreign media. Some sites have already come up with the name of his successor. However, it won’t be easy to get one.
Will there be a big change at Chelsea?
Who could arrive at Stamford Bridge instead of Mauricio Pochettino is not clear yet. All the names that appear in the media are still mere speculation and conjecture. However, one option is more interesting than others.
The Sports Zone newspaper has come up with the information that Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali is a big fan of Xabi Alonso. The latter is doing more than superbly at Bayer Leverkusen, who are pulling for a possible first title in the club’s history.
Chelsea reportedly want to get Alonso now, but it won’t be easy. The question is whether the Spaniard himself will want to walk away from the job he has been handed. If he does, he could ruin Leverkusen’s season, which is certainly not something the German club will want.
Besides, there is a lot of interest in the talented coach. Liverpool intend to pursue him in the summer, and there is also speculation about Bayern Munich’s interest.
