The Champions League has completed the sixth round of the group stage, which means that the next performance of the millionaire competition will be after the winter break. Some big clubs did not make it into the 16 qualifiers and we will now recap whose presence we can look forward to in the eighth round.

Teams advancing from the top spots

Bayern Munich – The Bavarian giants came through Group A almost flawlessly. They won five of their six matches and once they lost, drawing 0:0 with Copenhagen. Bayern scored 12:6 and their top scorer was Harry Kane with four accurate shots.

Arsenal – Arsenal made their first appearance in the Champions League in a long time, finishing first in Group B. Despite an opening defeat to Lens 1: 2, the Gunners picked themselves up and with four more wins and one draw, they picked up 13 points and recorded a score of 16: 4, with Gabriel Jesus scoring the most goals (4).

Real Madrid – The record holder for the most wins in the Champions League managed to get through Group C without hesitation. Neither Napoli nor Union Berlin were able to beat the White Ballet. Jude Bellingham contributed to the 16:7 scoreline with four goals.

Real Sociedad – Real Sociedad of Spain were the surprise winners of Group D, finishing ahead of Inter Milan thanks to a better record. The Spaniards had a record of 7-2, with Brais Méndez scoring the most goals (3).

Atlético Madrid – The second team from the Spanish capital also managed to dominate their group. Diego Simeone’s charges made it through Group E unbeaten, winning four times and adding two draws. The duo of Antoine Griezmann and Álvaro Morata contributed to the 17-6 scoreline, with five goals apiece.

Borussia Dortmund – Dortmund surprisingly dominated the group of death with 11 points. With three wins, two draws and one defeat in Group F, the Germans recorded a score of 7: 4. Their top scorer so far is young Karim Adeyemi with two goals.

Manchester City – The defending champions from the blue side of Manchester have made it through the Group G preliminary round without dropping a point. Pep Guardiola’s charges show they want to repeat last year’s success. The team’s top scorer could be none other than Erling Haaland, who contributed to the 18:7 scoreline with five goals.

Barcelona – Barcelona were fortunate to advance out of Group H from first place, adding two surprising defeats to their four wins. However, thanks to the mutual duels with Porto, the first place was secured. Ferran Torres and Joao Felix were the driving forces for the Catalans, both scoring three goals.

Teams advancing from second places

Copenhagen – In Group B, all three teams were fighting for the second qualification spot. Copenhagen emerged victorious, knocking out Prague’s Sparta in the preliminary round on penalties. Bayern couldn’t compete, but thanks to eight points, they finished better than Galatasaray and Manchester United.

PSV – PSV of the Netherlands finished second in Group B with nine points. After two wins, three draws and a single defeat, they finished ahead of Lens and Sevilla.

Naples – The Italian champion hoped not to go out twice empty-handed against Real, but despite the two defeats, Naples managed to advance quietly from second place at the expense of Braga and Union Berlin.

Inter – Last year’s Champions League runners-up were certainly planning on coming out of Group D in first place. And even though they had the same points as first placed Real Sociedad, they only recorded a draw and a loss in their games against each other, so they had to settle for second position. Next in the group with Inter were Benfica and Salzburg.

Lazio – Lazio easily secured second place in Group E with 10 points after three wins, one draw and two defeats. They defended their promotion at the expense of Feyenoord and Celtic.

Paris Saint Germain – PSG, who have been hungry for a Champions League trophy for several years, struggled in the group of death. It was only in the last game that they made sure of advancing from second position with eight points. The progression can be described as fortunate, as last-placed Newcastle were ahead of both Paris and third-placed AC Milan moments before the end of the sixth round.

Leipzig – Although Leipzig did not even make it through the duel with Manchester City, they subsequently found no opponent in Young Boys or Belgrade in Group G and calmly advance to the spring part with 12 points.

Porto – Porto secured their promotion in the last round in a direct duel with Shakhtar, which they lost 5: 3. Like Barcelona, the Portuguese team scored 12 points, but had to settle for second place due to a worse record.

The draw for the Champions League semi-final pairings is scheduled for Monday 18 December. The draw can be watched from 12:00 our time on the official UEFA website.
