The champion is running out of patience! Jamahal Hill is looking for Jiri Prochazka. If he doesn’t get a date, he wants a new opponent
Jamahal Hill is still waiting for Jiri Prochazka to recover from a serious shoulder injury and is slowly running out of patience. He wants a date for his first title defense from the UFC as soon as possible and wants a new opponent if the Moravian Samurai is unable to step in.
Jamahal Hill is still waiting for Jiri Prochazka to recover from a serious shoulder injury and is slowly running out of patience. He wants a date for his first title defense from the UFC as soon as possible and wants a new opponent if the Moravian Samurai is unable to step in.
Jamahal Hill got his UFC title shot through a strange coincidence
Jamahal Hill got to the UFC title by a confluence of coincidences. He got the chance to fight for the championship belt thanks to a serious injury to Jiri Prochazka. At the time he got this opportunity from the organization, he was ranked sixth in the welterweight rankings.
When Jiří Procházka announced a shoulder injury that prevented him from making his first title defence, it was a huge blow for the Moravian samurai. UFC management practically pushed him to give up the title he had won.
While Procházka and veteran Glover Teixeira were ostracized, other fighters in the division were cheering. However, after a boring title fight between Blachowicz vs Ankalaev ended in a draw, Dana White decided to give the next in line a chance.
He put Teixeira back in the title picture and it wasn’t until the sixth man in the rankings, Jamahal Hill, got an unexpected chance. He made the most of his opportunity and won the coveted title. The UFC president then confirmed that as soon as Prochazka gets his health back, he will be the number one challenger.
Logically, the champion Hill was not happy about this and was referred to the length of the Czech fighter’s rehabilitation. He himself then announced that he would wait until the summer at the most and then push the organization into his first defense.
He has been waiting for Jiri Prochazka’s return for a long time, but now his patience is running out
Slowly, summer is coming and the American fighter is getting a little frustrated with the situation. In an interview with the renowned journalist The Schmo, he expressed that his patience is slowly running out. He still doesn’t have a date for a possible fight.
“I heard what you all heard, summer. It’s always the same. But where are you,” Hill asks what’s up with Jiri Prochazka. “I mean, I haven’t heard anything, I’ve been waiting for the call (from the UFC), I’m ready to fight. I don’t care now, put the next man in line.”
“Whoever the hell they send, whoever it is, just give me a name,” he lamented. “I hope it’s September or October at the latest. I really don’t want to wait. I wanted to defend as champion at least twice this year. I’m ready to fight, I’m just waiting for a name.”
So Hill is pushing the UFC brass to give him a date and name for his next opponent as soon as possible. Dana White certainly wants to keep his promise to the Czech fighter and Prochazka obviously doesn’t want to rush anything after such a serious injury.
But there is no legitimate challenger waiting in the division at the moment. Blachowicz will face Alex Pereira at the end of July, Ankalaev has not been heard from for a long time after his harsh statement towards the management, as well as Rakic, who has been out of action for more than a year after a serious injury.
