The case of Kurt Zouma and his abused cat has slowly faded, but not for everyone. Manager David Moyes still puts the French stopper up despite much public opposition and more than once he still gets booed by the home fans. Newcastle striker Chris Wood has chosen an interesting strategy to make his opponents nervous. He allegedly meowed at Zouma during the game.

West Ham United versus Newcastle United, a few years ago it would have been a typical relegation battle. This time the situation was different with the home hammers the clear favourites, but the magpies, bolstered by the Saudi Arabian captain, fought out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

The match did not offer many footballing spectacles, but the Kurt Zouma and the cat cause was revived among the public and fans. The French stopper would probably like his aggressive behaviour towards his pet to be forgotten, but this will drag on longer than he would have expected.

Striker Chris Wood adopted an unusual strategy and should have meowed at Zouma, but it didn’t bring him a goal. And how did it come about? Zouma’s teammate Craig Dawson should have complained to the referee during the match that the New Zealand striker kept meowing at Zouma.

To make matters worse for Zouma, the Newcastle fans even brought an inflatable cat into the stadium to ping around with.

And that’s not the end of it, Zouma is often booed by the stands during games. But the fans’ creativity goes even further. Both Newcastle and West Ham fans have produced new chants in the style of famous tunes, see for yourself!

Animal cruelty is abhorrent and the public are rightly distancing themselves from it. But these creative chants with some distance must really amuse everyone (except Zouma).
