Jaylen Brown MVP
Luka Doncic practically single-handedly took the Mavericks to the Finals. Either way, the Celtics were going for the title from the first game of the series. The best team in the regular season played its second Finals in three years. But they’ve been waiting 16 years for a title. That was when basketball hall of famer Paul Pierce was still on the floor.
Jayson Tatum, a longtime Celtics icon, is now a sure thing in the club’s Hall of Fame, having met the club’s goal and the fans’ expectations and led his team to a title. Of the current roster, only Jrue Holiday celebrated a title back in 2021, and that was with the Millwaukee Bucks.
However, the MVP of the Finals series was Jaylen Brown, receiving the Bill Russell NBA Finals NBA Award. It was decided mostly by his heroic performance in Game 2 of the Finals series. Veteran Al Horford, who played 186 playoff games before winning his first title, also rejoiced in the title.
Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5 assists in the Finals series. While Jayson Tatum had better numbers, Brown also excelled defensively. Rightfully so, he takes home this prized trophy that, for example, has been won by Michael Jordan in all 6 Chicago Bulls titles.
Celtics most successful team in NBA history
Boston had tonight’s game firmly in its hands from the first period and led by double digits at halftime. In the second half, they only controlled the outcome of the game. Tatum was the home team’s top scorer with 31 points, followed by Brown’s 21 points.
The Mavericks were traditionally led by Luka Doncic with 28 points, but he was again the lone player and it was not enough to crown Boston on the home court. The unwritten rule of the NBA that never in history has a team that was already down 0:3 in the Finals succeeded.
The Celtics won their 18th title, placing them at the top of the historical charts ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers. It was the Lakers who celebrated the title on 17 occasions, more often played the NBA Finals. Boston, however, lost only 5 Finals series to get ahead of its rival.
