The biathlon beauty is in poor health. I have to be realistic, says Wierer

On Wednesday, 7 February, the Biathlon World Championships will start in Nové Město na Moravě. The start in the Vysočina Arena will not miss the Italian Wierer, but her participation is accompanied by many question marks.
Will Italian beauty Dorothea Wierer end her successful career this year or not? Biathlon fans and media have been looking for an answer to this question for several months.
The biathlete has previously stated that her decision will be influenced mainly by her performances in the current season. However, the protracted health problems that have plagued her since the opening rounds of the World Cup have rekindled discussions about whether the unlucky year will motivate the thirty-three-year-old to continue or hang up her small-bore and cross-country skis.
The Italian herself does not want to comment on the rumours about the end of her career just before the World Championships. “In the next two weeks I want to focus on getting everything out of myself. Once the championships are over, I will have time to think about the future,” Wierer told SportNews during her preparation for the World Championships.
Will Wierer succeed in Vyšocina Arena?
However, the same question mark that hangs over the Italian star’s future career also hangs over her performance during the World Championships. Wiererová has finished on the podium several times in Nové Město na Moravě, but she has never managed to win in the Czech Republic.
The results so far in the season do not suggest that the holder of two major crystal globes could improve her record in Vysočina Arena. Due to illness, she dropped out of the World Cup for a month, and her best individual result this year remains 14th place from the pursuit in Östersund and the shortened endurance race in Antholz.
So Wierer has no excessive expectations from the championships. “When you are sick for a long time, you don’t get back to your best form that quickly. I’ll try to make the best of it, but I have to be realistic,” said the Italian, who sees her best chance to win her 13th World Championships medal in the relays. “But slowly things are looking up,” the Bruneck native comments cautiously on her form.
Wierer will compete in her first individual race at the World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě on Friday, February 9, when she will start the sprint.
