The summer transfer period 2022 is over and we can evaluate and balance. Today we look at which teams made the best transfers.

We’re not comparing the most expensive transfers, but the best value ones. So we took into account how much the team needed the player, how much he cost, how he fits into the team and also the age and ability of the player.

10. Karim Adeyemi – €30 million – Borussia Dortmund

Adeyemi is considered one of the biggest talents in the world. His value according to the Transfermarkt website is €35 million, Borussia acquired him from Salzburg for €30, this makes the transfer of this promising player such a bargain.

the 20-year-old striker has even made 4 starts for the German national team and scored his debut goal. For Dortmund he made his debut in his very first competitive match, in a cup match against 1860 Munich. Last year he scored 4 goals for Salzburg in the Champions League, all indications are that BVB will sell him to the world in a few years for at least double the price of the likes of Haaland, Sancho or Pulisic.

9. Matthijs de Ligt – €67 million – Bayern Munich

This transfer has been baked somewhat in secret, but it could pay off quite well for Bayern in the future. Four years ago, de Ligt was wanted by the whole world, then his development at Juventus somewhat stalled, but he is still a very good stopper, and he recently celebrated only his 23rd birthday, so he still has almost his whole career ahead of him.

Moreover, Bayern acquired him under price, his value according to the Transfermarkt website is 70 million euros, the Bavarian club paid 67 million euros for the Dutch defender.

8. Jules Koundé – €50 million – Barcelona

In Barcelona’s current critical financial situation, it is difficult to gauge whether it was indeed a good move to spend €45 million for the 34-year-old striker or €58 million for the Leeds player. However, Barcelona can definitely be commended for the arrival of Koundé.

Indeed, the French stopper is one of the most sought-after players across Europe, with Chelsea reportedly willing to pay up to €80 million for him. Moreover, Koundé is still only 23 years old, yet he has already had five years in adult football (2 at Bordeaux, 3 at Sevilla) and he certainly doesn’t lack experience. In that respect, 50 million seems like a super price.

Moreover, when Barcelona desperately needed to strengthen the centre of defence, where they had big problems last year. Koundé should solve everything for a few years ahead.

7. Alexander Isak – €70 million – Newcastle United

Here, the amount is quite exorbitant, but again, we have to take into account that Newcastle’s owners have the money and it is not a problem for them. Thus, the transfer of Isak could be a coup for them.

Still only 22 years old, the striker has had a successful engagement at Real Sociedad, after last season Arsenal or Manchester United were very interested in him. The Swedish marksman is the prototype of the modern striker, he is tall (192cm) but also extremely fast, strong, great on the ball and excellent at finishing.

After all, he showed his importance for Newcastle, who desperately needed a striker, in the first game against Liverpool, when he scored one goal and the second was disallowed due to a slight offside.

6. Lisandro Martínez – €57 million – Manchester United

Manchester United’s biggest woes in recent years? The defensive midfielder and stopper. The Red Devils were getting ridiculous goals, making childish mistakes defensively and constructive passing was out of the question. That’s why a new stopper had to come in.

And that’s who Erik ten Hag brought in from Ajax. Lisandro Martínez, nicknamed “the butcher”, arrived at Old Trafford for 57 million euros. He immediately fit into the starting line-up, and he wasn’t quite right alongside Maguire, but he put in a great performance alongside Varane.

In three games together, they kept two clean sheets and beat Liverpool. Martinez’s height (175cm) was questioned, but the 24-year-old defender has shown that it will be no problem.

5. Casemiro – €70 million – Manchester United

A lot of people are questioning the 70million figure for the 30-year-old, but we stand by the fact that the arrival of Casemiro is the right move. Manchester United desperately, almost desperately needed a quality defensive midfielder, another season with a Fred – McTominay line-up would not be possible for United fans.

Casemiro is undoubtedly one of the best shields in the world, maybe the very best. Aside from his qualities on the pitch, he is a natural leader in the locker room and has a winning mentality that United players desperately need to pick up.

So the arrival of the Brazilian captain is a great move. Moreover, like other Brazilians, there is no danger of decline and poor lifestyle after 30, as according to his teammates at Real, Casemiro was the hardest worker, plus he followed a strict diet. Toni Kroos recalled in his farewell letter that even while recovering in a Turkish bath, Casemiro had to at least strengthen his abdominal muscles, that says it all.

4. Aurélien Tchouaméni – €80 million – Real Madrid

The amount for Tchouaméni is admittedly high, but it has to be looked at in context. Tchouaméni is only 22 years old and Real have been battling Liverpool and especially PSG for his signature, who have unlimited options. The young French midfielder was one of the most sought-after shields in the world.

Moreover, Los Blancos were preparing for the future, for the departure of Casemiro, who came sooner than others would have expected. But thanks to that, Real got the arrival of 22-year-old Tchouaméni for practically free, as they sold the 30-year-old Casemiro with bonuses for the same amount they brought the Frenchman for.

Moreover, the former Monaco player has shown tremendous quality in his first few games and looks like a rock, plus he is also great in the midfield. So he took over Casemiro’s role almost immediately and Real Madrid are virtually taken care of in midfield (Tchouaméni – Camavinga – Valverde) for several years to come, just like they had with the Casemiro – Kroos – Modric trio.

3. Sadio Mané – €32 million – Bayern Munich

Here we can talk about the big “steal” of Bayern. For the last 6 years, Mané has been one of the best and most dangerous strikers in the Premier League, and indeed the world. He has helped the Reds to win the Champions League and the Premier League, and has accumulated 120 goals and 49 assists in 269 games for Liverpool.

Mané is 30 years old, so he still has a few years at the top ahead of him. The price was so low mainly because of his expiring contract next year, as the Senegalese didn’t want to sign a new one and would leave for free in a year’s time. But a great deal for Bayern.

2. Gabriel Jesus – €57 million – Arsenal

Arsenal have finally brought in a proven TOP player who will immediately raise the level of the team. Gabriel Jesus has 5 Premier League titles under his belt with Manchester City, but his hunger for success is still high as he was missing something at the Citizens. In fact, he was more of a rotation player and never earned a solid place in the starting lineup, even after the departure of Sergio Agüero.

At Arsenal, the 25-year-old is the main figure around which everything revolves, the Gunners needed a reliable striker, so everything fell into place for a relatively affordable €57 million.

That it could work was confirmed by Jesus at the start of the season, who has Arsenal’s best in years. Arteta’s charges have won all 5 games, Jesus has helped with a 3+3 record.

1. Erling Haaland – 60 million euros – Manchester City

There can be no question of the best transfer of the summer, even if the transfer sum was double or even triple. Yes, even at €180 million, Haaland would be hugely worthwhile for City.

The Norwegian goalscorer is poised to be the best player in the world and collect one Ballon d’Or after another. He has taken the Premier League by storm, netting 9 goals and adding one assist in five games. And when you consider how much the Citizens needed a striker after Agüero’s departure, it all fits together fabulously.

Moreover, Haaland is still only 22 years old and the €60 million figure? That’s almost a mockery, here Manchester City have clearly masterminded perhaps the best transfer of the decade. Especially when you consider that in the same transfer period Antony went for 95 million euros, Fofana for 80, Núñez for 80 or Richarlison for 58. All quality players, but you can’t compare that to Haaland.
