Virtually no one in the world doubts who should get the next Ballon d’Or. The best footballer in the world at the moment is Karim Benzema, who led Real Madrid to winning La Liga by a huge margin and also shot to the Champions League title. The Frenchman was given a long layoff after a tough season, but now he is back in training and is making magic again.

Sometimes it’s funny to reflect on how quickly things can change in football. In the 2017/18 season, Karim Benzema scored just 5 goals in La Liga and he wasn’t injured for long, he played almost everything (32 games).

A large majority of Real Madrid fans were asking for his departure, they wanted a better and more goal scoring striker. Few stood up for Benzema at the time. But after the departure of Ronaldo, the French sniper finally took the leadership role that suits him and started to gradually drag Real.

In the following season he scored 21 goals in the league, a year later he scored the same number, the season before that he scored 23 and in the last one he even scored 27 and added 12 assists. And to make matters worse, 15 goals and 2 assists in the Champions League and two goals in the Super Cup.

Suddenly, Benzema has gone from unwanted to a god worshipped by Merengues fans, with the whole of Santiago Bernabéu at his feet. And he is rightly destined to be the upcoming winner of the Ballon d’Or awarded to the best footballer in the world.

Magic in training

After a tough season, the star striker has been given a longer sabbatical than the other players, but at the moment he has already joined the team on tour in the USA. Real first played a match against Barcelona in Las Vegas, and now they are in Los Angeles, where they will play Club America and Juventus.

And Benzema, who showed in training that he has lost none of his form, could already be involved in those games.

In a classic training game, he received the ball in the air from Eduardo Camavinga, Benzema jumped and with a delicate touch, he flicked over the Odriozola defender, worked the ball onto his chest and finished uncompromisingly.

He still picked up a cut from training afterwards, for which he had to be treated by doctors, but it shouldn’t be anything serious that would rule him out of the game.
