Brazilian Matheus Fernandes arrived at Camp Nou from Palmeiras, having only played 3 games on a six-month loan at Valladolid. Nevertheless, he was integrated into the Barcelona squad in the summer.
Nevertheless, the then sporting director Eric Abidal did not hesitate to shell out €7 million for Matheus, which would later turn out to be one of Catalonia’s biggest blunders.
the 23-year-old central midfielder was never officially introduced by the club and played just one game for the Blaugranas, coming on for 18 minutes in the Champions League against Dynamo Kiev.
After just a year and a half into his contract, Barcelona announced that they had terminated Matheus’ contract early. The contract was not due to expire until 2025. And this is definitely not to the Brazilian footballer’s liking.
According to Marca, Matheus is going to sue Barcelona for unfair and unjustified termination of his contract.
In this case, the Brazilian thinks he is entitled to be paid the remaining contract, which amounts to 15 million euros.
