The bad luck continues. Patrik Schick is injured again, he will almost certainly miss key national team games

Bayer Leverkusen are having a dream start to the new season as they dominate the German Bundesliga. However, none of the three Czech Republic footballers who play for the club have any part in that.

Adam Hložek fills the role of joker, Matěj Kovář is a number two and only plays in cups and then there is Patrik Schick. He has been out since March and only last week returned to the pitch after a break of almost eight months.

The former AS Roma or Leipzig striker intervened in the Europa League against Qarabag and in the Bundesliga he showed up against Freiburg, spending a total of 28 minutes on the pitch. But on Wednesday, Leverkusen showed up in the DFB Pokal at Sandhausen and Schick wasn’t even on the bench.

Bayer didn’t alarm the fans in any way and announced straight away what was happening with the 27-year-old Czech striker. Czech national team coach Jaroslav Šilhavy is certainly not happy about the announcement.

Schick is injured again, it’s a problem for the national team too

It was expected that against Sandhausen Patrik Schick could show up on the pitch for a longer period of time to get his feet wet, but the opposite is true. The Czech striker is injured again.

According to a club announcement, he suffered a minor muscle injury during training ahead of the cup match. The problem is related to his left calf. The Sparta Prague product did not travel for the game.

Leverkusen expects that Schick could be available on November 25 for the match at Werder Bremen, which is a big inconvenience for the Czech national team.

Jaroslav Šilhavy’s squad is under immense pressure and has two crucial matches ahead of them in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, as they have to travel to Poland and then challenge Moldova in Olomouc.

They only need to beat Moldova to qualify, but given the performance of the national team, it will not be easy. Schick could be the right reinforcement and revival.

The match in Poland is scheduled for November 17, while Moldova will arrive in the Czech Republic on November 20.
