Aspen Ladd used to be seen as one of the most talented female fighters in the UFC until recently. However, during this year she was released and now she is about to make her debut in the PFL organization, where Viktor Peshta or Martina Jindrova are active. Now the American has weighed in on what she likes about the PFL and conversely dislikes about the UFC.
She was one of the UFC’s best prospects, then she was fired
Her name doesn’t ring a bell? Then know that Aspen Ladd has a solid 9-3 record and at 27 years old is still one of the great hopes of women’s MMA. Or at least she was until recently, before she was released from the UFC.
The biggest MMA organization in the world terminated their partnership with her mainly because the American fighter failed to make the weight limit on several occasions. However, it can’t be said that it was downright her fault.
In a way, it’s the UFC’s fault because it doesn’t actually keep the women’s featherweight division alive at all (up to 65.8 kilograms), and the highest active weight among women is bantamweight (up to 61.2 kilograms).
Now, the California native is facing a new stretch as she moves to another overseas PFL organization. Viktor Peshta and Martina Jindrova, for example, are active in that organization. It may not be such a popular brand, but there can be no doubt about its qualities.
What did she dislike about the UFC and what does she like about the PFL?
Ending up in the UFC is seen by many as a downward career slide, however Aspen Ladd is relieved in a way. “We all know that MMA nowadays is not just based on skill, it’s based on how you can talk the talk and how expressive you are,” she hinted at the importance of the show to the UFC in an interview with MMA Fighting.
The PFL, she said, is the complete opposite:: “It’s just a return to who’s the best. Who’s the best at what we do. Not in what we say or how we look. That’s definitely the great thing about this organization.”
In the UFC, she says she lost several fight opportunities just because she refused to act like a lunatic on social media. She just wanted to be herself, and in a way, she paid the price for that, too.
The American fighter claims that the vast majority of trashtalks are terribly insincere and that it’s all about trying to get attention. That’s also why she says it doesn’t have the effect that it did with Conor McGregor, who excelled at it and who everyone emulates.
Aside from that, Ladd appreciates the fact that the PFL is newly opening up just the featherweight division, which he naturally drops into. That’s the main reason she signed with the organization. So let’s hope she will once again present herself in the best possible light and in her best form.
