Thursday’s European Conference League game was not a success. Slavia was more active, but the only goal of the match was scored by the visiting Cluj, who took all three points to Romania. What did coach Jindřich Trpišovský say after the unsuccessful match?
Slavia were the favourites in their group after the draw, drawing 1-1 with Sivaspor in their first match in Turkey. They then beat Ballkani 3:2 at home and the fans believed that another win would follow.
But that didn’t happen. The Sešivans were more active, but the visitors had the better chances and converted one of them. Rangelo Janga, to be precise, who fired Cluj’s first group stage win.
“A series of mistakes collided at the goal. Even when we were two-on-one, we let the opponent off-centre, didn’t secure the space and got to the shooter late. A cheap goal,” said coach Jindřich Trpišovský at the press conference.
This defeat put Slavia in a rather unflattering position. It has the same number of points as all three opponents, but will play only once more at home.
“The ambition to move up from first place is still alive. The table is level, we still have three games to play. Whoever is more productive will be promoted. I believe we will make it, even if we play twice away,” the coach added.
The rematch is scheduled for next week, but the Sešiovans have to prepare for the league as well. On Sunday, they will play at Olomouc’s Sigma, who would like to get a scalp.
“We have an important game on Sunday, which we need to get through. The rematch with Cluj will be even more challenging, we need to improve and avoid unnecessary mistakes in defence,” Trpišovský concluded.
