Great news for Czech football. Lukáš Horníček has signed a new contract at Portuguese club SC Braga. This should keep him in the traditional first division club until 2028.
Since joining the club in 2019, the 20-year-old goalkeeper has only played three competitive games for the A-team, but the announcement of the new contract nevertheless shows that Braga are undoubtedly counting on him for future years.
Indeed, Braga’s club website points out that Horníček has been a prominent figure in the team during his games for the reserves and that he is one of the club’s biggest talents.
“I feel very good here. I am extremely happy that a club like Braga has such confidence in a young player like me. I want to capitalise on this trust in my work and develop further to achieve my goals,” Horníček told the club’s website.
The former Pardubice player claims that he has gotten used to life in Portugal and the culture as much as possible. He praised his teammates and coaches who helped him with his acclimatisation. Moreover, he is already proficient in Portuguese, which makes everything easier for him.
“I’m trying to train at 100% to get to the level of the goalkeepers in the A-team. I want to be number one in the Braga team. I am very happy that my progress is being recognised,” Horníček added.
Horníček has already made one appearance for the A-team this season. Specifically, it happened in the Portuguese League Cup against Pacos Ferreira. The Czech talent kept a clean sheet and helped the team win 2-0.
